An albino is someone whose body is unable to produce a group of pigments called melanin (black pigment). Melanin primarily determines skin color but is also found in hair and eyes. The lack of melanin is referred to as albinism. Although the term “albino” is commonly used to refer to people with albinism, the condition affects all vertebrates. The opposite of albinism is melanism.
